    Meet David Hoots, Principal

Joined Team CCS - December 2009

    Experience

I began my career in education in 2009 as a teacher assistant at Saint Stephens Elementary School. The following year, I had the opportunity to become a special education teacher at SSE. I also worked as the teacher of a behavior cluster classroom at Tuttle Elementary School for one year before becoming the assistant principal at Snow Creek Elementary. In 2018, I became the Principal at Snow Creek Elementary School.

    Education

    • B.A. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill
    • MSA from Appalachian State University

    Why I Became an Educator

My parents inspired me to get into education and this started at an early age. My mother worked in education for as long as I can remember as a substitute teacher, tutor, and secretary; and my father is a retired minister. At an early age, I was able to see the power there is in teaching, counseling, and mentoring young people and adults and how that can change people's lives. This is where my passion for helping others began, and that passion still remains one of my driving forces today.

    Favorite Place in Catawba County

My favorite place in Catawba County is Lake Hickory.

    Favorite Activities

I enjoy spending time with my family, watching sports, and being outdoors.

    Something Unique About Me

I was a student manager of the North Carolina basketball team when they won the national championship in 2005.

I joined Catawba County Schools because I want to make a difference in kids' lives. I am a product of the Catawba County School system, and I want to provide students with the same opportunities that I was fortunate enough to enjoy.

Joined Team CCS - August 2022

    Experience

I began my career in education in 2012 as a Middle School Language Arts and Social Studies teacher in Shelby North Carolina. In 2018, my husband and I moved to Catawba County with our 2 children. I taught at Newton-Conover Middle School for 3 years where I was named Teacher of the Year for the school and district. I began my administration journey at South Newton Elementary School in 2021. I am now so excited and thankful to be a part of the Snow Creek community!

    Education

    B.A. in Middle Lenoir-Rhyne University

MSA from Appalachian State University in School Administration

    Why I Became an Educator

School has always been my safe place. No matter what was going on at home or outside of school, I knew that my teachers loved me and that school was a place I would have stability. I became an educator for that very reason. In the classroom I wanted all students to feel welcomed, feel safe and to know that they belonged. As an administrator, I have that same vision for all of our students, parents and staff.

    Favorite Place in Catawba County

My favorite place in Catawba County is downtown Hickory, specifically during Christmas time. I love the lights and all of the festivities that happen during the season!

    Favorite Activities

I enjoy spending time with my family, watching sports, and reading.

    Something Unique About Me

I finally hit 60 inches of height my junior year in high school.

In the classroom I want all students to feel welcome, feel safe and know that they belong.

  • School nurse Katie Abee smiles at the camera against a blue backdrop.Hi, I’m Katie Abee, a School Nurse with Catawba County Public Health. I am excited to serve your students at Snow Creek Elementary School!

I’m in the school several days a week because children learn best when they are healthy. Routine health care promotes physical, social and emotional growth of children through the early detection, treatment and referral of health problems, illness prevention and education about common student health concerns. I also work to eliminate chronic health conditions as a barrier to achieving school success. Often, I serve as a connector between school staff, parents, students and health care providers.

The best way to contact me is by calling your child’s school.
